WB6JWB Remote Base - 224.680 - Cypress Mountain
The Cypress Mountain remote is located about 20 miles west of Paso Robles,
California, at approximately 2,600 ASL. The remote went on the air in 1994 and
has operated continuously since then. The hilltop is private ranch land
overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Three 60 watt solar panels supply electricity to
a charge controller which supplies ample current to keep the radio running day
and night. The remote uses an early RLC1-A Link-Com controller. The remote
is connected via half-duplex link to the WB6JWB 441.075 remote located on La
Panza Peak 30 miles east of San Luis Obispo. The effective range of the radio on
224.680 accommodates most of the
central coast even with it's low 2 watt output. This remotes primary purpose
however is it's connection to the La Panza remote.
Below are some images taken in late 2004. To see additional
images from when the remote was constructed, see the
Cypress Remote construction page.
